Senior Planning came into my life around an intervention for my elderly aunt in July of 2005. The situation at that time was unhealthy with her current caregivers. With Suzanne and Joe Wheatley’s help, changes were made with both her caregivers as well as her living situation which improved her health and outlook for the final years of her life.
As her nearest relative, my living out of Santa Barbara presented a multitude of issues. Joe was continually problem solving: monitoring her home and personal care, recommending changes, transporting her to medical appointments, changing caregivers as needed by hiring/firing and substituting as needed. He also monitored her medications, helped set up a lesser expensive program with her insurance for her medications, and interfaced with the physicians on my behalf. This only represents the tip of the iceberg of all the help rendered. And all the while he was being a dear friend to both my aunt and me. We both looked forward to his frequent visits and kind attention.
With Joe’s guidance we changed physicians, and then eventually moved into Hospice care. Joe supported and made possible Pat’s strongest wish, which was to remain in her home. She passed peaceably this month and will be missed by all.
